Nutrition

The Venus fly trap derives nitrogen from insects and other animals. The soil in the bogs are poor in nitrogen. Nutrients from the insect will lead to new stems being formed from the center of the plant. When cultivated and supplied with nitrogen by other means, the plant does not require insects and animals creatures as food. (Encarta,2000)
