The Venus FlyTrap has a typical plant structure. The lower portion of the Venus FlyTraps leaves is bladelike. The outer portion of each leaf is divided into two halves that form the trap. Along the edges of the trap are long spines, which stand outward, similar to eyelashes. Inside the pads there are three tiny hairs protruding from the middle. The trap mechanism is triggered by contact with these three hairs. The pads of the Venus fly trap produces a sweet fluid that attracts insects and other animals. (Encarta, 2000)
